On July 15, 2026, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) opened the Grants Gateway for Fiscal Year 2028 funding applications. This initiative supports local governments and organizations in projects that enhance water quality, boost resilience to storms, and promote economic growth.
Recent funded projects include:
-
Tilghman Island Living Shoreline: A 665-foot shoreline project protecting wetlands and communities, including oyster structures and plantings.
-
Middle Branch Resiliency Initiative: Stabilized 2,000 feet of shoreline and restored 8.5 acres of tidal marsh, funded through the Chesapeake Trust Fund.
- San Domingo Creek Flood Planning: A feasibility study for a tide gate to mitigate flooding impacts.
Funding sources include various environmental programs and a virtual webinar for prospective applicants is scheduled for August 20, 2026. More information is available on the DNR’s Grants Gateway page.
