Two Maryland nonprofits, the Accokeek Foundation and Alice Ferguson Foundation, have been awarded grants for Youth Outdoor Science and Watershed Education to enhance environmental education in the state. Funded by the U.S. EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Implementation Grant, the Accokeek Foundation will improve its “Wild Rice” program, focusing on seventh graders’ engagement with environmental restoration and indigenous knowledge. The Alice Ferguson Foundation plans to expand its curriculum in partnership with local schools, targeting middle and high school students. Applications for the next fiscal year’s funding will be accepted starting in July through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Grants Gateway.
