Colorado Gov. Jared Polis announced a $700,000 grant for the Fountain Creek Watershed aimed at restoration and conservation. This watershed, the most populated and fastest-growing in Colorado, provides about 15% of Colorado Springs’ drinking water and supports southeastern agriculture. Funded by the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the funds will improve water quality, reduce erosion, and protect infrastructure and wildlife. Specifically, $300,000 will develop a water strategy for Monument Creek, while $400,000 will restore a 1.5-mile stretch of Fountain Creek for better ecological health and recreational access. Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade expressed excitement over the grants’ contribution to local infrastructure and the city’s growth.
