The Idaho Department of Insurance is mandating that property insurance companies provide data amid rising rate hikes and cancellations affecting homeowners in wildfire-prone areas. With intense wildfire seasons impacting the market, the survey aims to gather insights on insurers’ practices in Idaho.

Shannon Hohl, market oversight bureau chief, noted the changing landscape as 22 to 25 out of 91 insurers have stopped renewing policies due to wildfire risks. The survey will collect metrics such as premiums written and coverage areas.

Recent reports highlight homeowner frustrations, with some being dropped without notification. The collected data may support future legislative solutions after a previous bill to establish a wildfire preparation fund failed. Insurers must submit data by May 20, and affected residents are encouraged to contact the consumer affairs team.
