Alexey Voinov was the first AAAS Fellow at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Institute for Water Resources (IWR) during 2006-07. With a PhD in biophysics and 25 years in environmental science, he contributed to projects like Shared Vision Planning for water management and an Energy Water Nexus Outlook. His work aimed to innovate water resource management amid changing conditions. Voinov also led a modeling team for the James River Basin and later joined the Chesapeake Research Consortium as a program manager. His fellowship highlighted the potential for more AAAS Fellows to influence water resource policy, particularly addressing issues like drought and floods.
