Lolo Creek has been increasingly drying up, culminating in significant fish kills this past year, prompting heightened community focus on drought impacts. The Lolo Watershed Group, active since 2003, is now working on a Drought Management Plan with assistance from the Clark Fork Coalition (CFC), addressing the water shortage exacerbated by low mountain runoff and geological features.

Jed Whiteley of CFC emphasized that the region is experiencing a historic drought, noting water supply issues due to the creek’s unique geography. The group has historically facilitated various restoration projects and has recently garnered support from local irrigators to manage water withdrawals more sustainably.

Ron Pierce, a board member, indicated the group’s collaborative efforts with stakeholders aim to create a comprehensive drought plan. The community is engaged and ready to tackle these issues collectively. For more details, visit the Lolo Watershed Group’s website.
