Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources has announced five watershed projects as part of the Whole Watershed Act pilot program, aimed at restoring areas like Antietam Creek and the Baltimore Harbor over five years. These projects will focus on combatting non-point source pollution through techniques such as tree planting and shoreline protection. The Whole Watershed Act emerged from the 2023 CESR report’s recommendations to enhance water quality and habitat. However, the state’s $3 billion budget deficit threatens the program’s funding, prompting calls from environmental advocates like Allison Colden to protect these initiatives to achieve restoration and climate goals.
