The City of Mississauga has secured $453,406 in federal funding from Canada’s Natural Infrastructure Fund to restore the Cooksville Creek watershed at Iggy Kaneff Park (2180 Camilla Rd.). This initiative aims to enhance green spaces while bolstering climate resilience and stormwater management.
Key improvements include planting 1,050 trees, 6,000 shrubs, and 2,000 wetland plants, alongside ongoing redevelopment efforts to address parkland deficits in the growing Cooksville neighborhood. The project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2028.
Local officials emphasize the importance of these projects for enhancing community green spaces, reducing flood risks, and supporting ecosystem health. The federal funding is part of a broader initiative aimed at protecting biodiversity and improving access to nature across Canada.
