The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) has secured approximately $79,000 from the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks through the Great Lakes Local Action Fund (GLLAF) to support two creek habitat restoration projects in 12 Mile Creek. Located in the Niagara Peninsula watershed, this area is crucial for supporting Brook and Brown Trout. The funding will enhance biodiversity and water quality at St. John’s Centre Conservation Area and Camp Wetaskiwin, addressing issues like erosion and flooding exacerbated by climate change and development.

NPCA staff and local youth volunteers will restore 150 meters of riparian habitat using bioengineering methods. The projects aim to engage the community while ensuring long-term ecological sustainability. The GLLAF is part of Ontario’s commitment to preserving the Great Lakes ecosystem, and NPCA emphasizes the importance of this support for local environmental initiatives and community well-being.
