Oklahoma fire officials are warning of high fire danger due to invasive Eastern Red Cedar trees, which easily ignite and complicate firefighting efforts. State Rep. Mike Dobrinski has introduced House Bill 2162, the Terry Peach Water Restoration Act, aiming to establish a statewide program for the removal of these hazardous species. Fire Chief Dane Lausen notes that with strong winds expected, these trees pose significant risks. While past grants have helped, Dobrinski emphasizes the need for more resources and a coordinated state response to effectively manage the wildfire threat. The bill has passed the House and is awaiting Senate review.
