Missoula County is updating its Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) to enhance wildfire risk management for both the city and county. Karen Hughes, the project manager, noted that the update builds on the 2018 version and collaborates with various stakeholders. The revised plan addresses new data and concerns, particularly regarding wildfire smoke. Adrienne Beck emphasized that wildfire remains the region’s top hazard. The updated plan focuses on reducing hazardous fuels, increasing fire-resistant structures, and strengthening community preparedness. Amelia Pludow described the CWPP as a “living document” for ongoing wildfire planning, which could assist in future grant pursuits. Public education on defensible space is also prioritized. Workshops are planned for public engagement, with further sessions set for November 2026 and April 2027. More details are available at Missoulacountyvoice.com.
