The Clackamas Water Environment Services (WES) initiated the RiverHealth Watershed Stewardship Program (RHSP) in 2013, allowing community groups to apply for grants up to $30,000 to enhance watershed health. Eligible projects include riparian restoration, stormwater management, and educational outreach, with annual funding increasing from $152,000 to $330,000 due to growing demand.
In FY 2025-26, various organizations received grants for projects like: Bob’s Red Mill’s wetland restoration; Clackamas River Basin Council’s riparian habitat improvement; and Friends of Trees’ native plantings and youth education. These initiatives not only support local ecology but also engage residents in stewardship and compliance with environmental regulations.
Specific achievements include the planting of over 11,000 trees and shrubs, 809 educational activities, and substantial volunteer engagement. The RHSP effectively combines community involvement with ecological restoration, promoting sustainable practices across multiple watersheds.
