Parents are encouraged to discuss wildfire dangers with their children following a significant fire sparked by an “out-of-control campfire” on Blackheath Common, near Guildford. Surrey Fire & Rescue Service deployed multiple fire engines and specialist vehicles to combat the blaze, which affected four hectares of land. Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed, and police closed a nearby road. The fire was contained by Friday evening, and crews remained to monitor hotspots overnight.
