A wildfire occurred in eastern Russell County, near Lake Wilson, on March 12, 2026. Quick action by local units, utilizing the Wildfire Automatic Response (WAR) protocol, extinguished the fire. The incident highlights the ongoing Red Flag Warning in Russell County and surrounding areas, including Rooks, Ellis, and others, lasting from noon to 8 PM the same day. A high wind advisory is also in effect, urging caution due to fire hazards.
