Herds of goats and sheep returned to Paso Robles on May 2 to graze firebreaks along the Salinas River as part of the city’s Vegetation Management Program. This initiative, launched in 2021, has effectively reduced wildfire risks, according to city officials. Supported by the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council, grazing will continue until June 10, starting at Larry Moore Park and moving northward.

In conjunction with this, the city is also working on revegetation on five acres affected by the 2020 River Fire, planting 150 trees with help from local conservation groups. Temporary path closures are in place near grazing areas, and the public should be cautious near electric fences. The grazing operations are managed by The Goat Girls LLC and funded through grants.
