On May 29, 2026, the Tom Springs Wildfire started in the Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District, about 10 miles northwest of Pecos, NM, covering approximately 3.4 acres. Caused by lightning, fire managers are actively suppressing it using helicopters to drop water. Currently, there is no threat to people or property, though smoke may be visible from nearby areas. The public is advised to exercise caution. The Santa Fe National Forest is under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions due to heightened fire danger, and updates can be found on their social media and website. The Forest Service emphasizes community connection and conservation across extensive public lands.
