A major wildfire, the Banana Lake Fire, has erupted in Sanders County, Montana, burning nearly 1,000 acres since it began Saturday afternoon. The fire’s rapid growth is fueled by hot temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds, reaching over 850 acres by Sunday evening. No evacuations are currently ordered. Governor Gianforte is set to receive his annual fire briefing, highlighting the increased fire risk this summer, with 345 wildfires reported in the state so far.

In Missoula, a new exhibit opened at the Historical Museum, showcasing a former internment camp for Japanese and Italian citizens during WWII. Officials emphasize the importance of remembering past injustices to prevent recurrence.

Additionally, search efforts concluded for 68-year-old Robert Jeffry Howe, whose body was recovered in the Lochsa River after he drowned during a camping trip.

Montana DNRC reports that 7,053 acres have burned in the state in 2025 so far.
