The Tarilum-Drujeygang watershed restoration project in Dagana, Bhutan, addresses severe water scarcity threatening over 200 households in Ambithang and Pangserpo. Completed at a cost of Nu 3.67 million, it aims to revive a degraded watershed crucial for drinking and irrigation. Initiated by the gewog with technical support from the Department of Water, the project involved soil management, catchment rehabilitation, and community participation.
Drujeygang Gup Singye Dorji highlighted long-term drying due to population growth and infrastructure development, with over 80% of local water sources diminished. Many households have ceased rice cultivation due to low water availability. The project aims to enhance water productivity, with ongoing support from the Department of Water, aligning with Bhutan’s national goals for community resilience and environmental conservation.
