A rapidly spreading wildfire, known as the Hawk Fire, erupted in northwest Reno, Nevada, prompting evacuations for around 90,000 residents. Driven by changing winds, the fire has consumed approximately 20 square miles and injured at least six people, including civilians and first responders. Many structures have been destroyed, and evacuation orders were expanded to include areas near the University of Nevada.

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard for firefighting support. Approximately 10,000 homes experienced power outages, and major highways were affected. Evacuation centers are open for displaced residents, though pets cannot be accommodated on-site.

Personal stories illustrate the impact of the fire, with families fleeing and losing their homes amidst chaotic conditions. A couple shared their heartbreak over lost possessions, while a local man was forced to leave with just his dogs. The wildfire’s rapid escalation, fueled by dry conditions and winds, mirrors other recent fire emergencies in the region.
