The Alberta government is streamlining watershed restoration efforts by eliminating the requirement for a temporary diversion licence for watering plants in riparian projects. This change aims to reduce bureaucratic delays and costs for communities and businesses, allowing them to focus on restoration. Minister of Environment Rebecca Schulz emphasized that this amendment fosters practical riparian restoration, helping mitigate flood and drought risks while enhancing ecosystem health. The exemption applies to small projects using under 100 cubic metres of water daily to support plant growth. Supporting a vibrant ecosystem, this initiative is praised by restoration experts for its potential positive impacts.
