The Federation of American Scientists supports S. 1462, the Fix Our Forests Act, as a crucial measure to enhance wildfire resilience and improve forest management. The letter, addressed to Senate leaders, emphasizes the increasing risk of catastrophic wildfires affecting communities, ecosystems, and natural resources across the U.S. The Fix Our Forests Act aims to expedite wildfire risk reduction efforts, promote prescribed fire, and support ecosystem restoration. It also proposes a Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Program and a Fire Intelligence Center for better interagency coordination. With the House already advancing a companion bill, the Senate is urged to act swiftly to prevent future disasters. Various organizations co-sign the letter, reflecting widespread support for proactive wildfire management.
