The stream restoration project at Gypsy Hill Park, officially opened on September 25, 2025, has revitalized the area after a year of construction. Funded 90% by federal dollars from the U.S. Department of Environmental Quality, the project aimed to combat stream bank erosion that affected water quality. Vice Mayor Brad Arrowood emphasized the balance between environmental stewardship and community recreation, stating that the upgrades enhance both aesthetics and sustainability.

Environmental Programs Administrator Willow Hughes noted that the restoration will decrease sediment entering the stream, improve water quality, and support local wildlife. A significant aspect of the project involved ‘daylighting’ a portion of the stream that had been buried, allowing it to flow naturally. The initiative also targets state and federal stormwater pollution reduction mandates. Despite challenges during construction, the project has been deemed a success, promising a vibrant future for the park and its surroundings.
