Summary of Article

Amazon has launched a ten-year partnership with the Australian River Restoration Centre (ARRC) to restore a degraded stretch of the Coxs River in Greater Western Sydney. This project aims to improve water quality and quantity for millions of people by addressing erosion, managing livestock access, and removing invasive willows. It will replace willows with native species, stabilize eroded banks, and install fencing to limit livestock pollution.

The initiative is part of Amazon’s larger goal to be water positive by 2030, ensuring they return more water to communities than they consume. Previously, Amazon had a similar project in New South Wales, which restored land post-bushfires.

The ARRC emphasizes that river restoration benefits both people and nature, enhancing water security and supporting biodiversity. Amazon’s data centers in Australia are designed to use significantly less water, contributing to their sustainability efforts. Overall, the Coxs River project demonstrates the impact of investing in healthy waterways.
