The Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS) has appointed Dr. Momcilo Markus as the new head of its Watershed Science Section. With over 20 years at ISWS and 40 years in hydrology and hydroclimatology, he succeeds Laura Keefer. Director Kevin O’Brien praised Markus’s extensive expertise.

Markus specializes in hydrological forecasting, climate change impacts, and urbanization effects on water resources. His work contributed to the National Weather Service’s River Forecast System and includes the significant update, Bulletin 75, for Illinois’ precipitation standards, aiding various infrastructure projects.

An accomplished author and editor, Markus has published numerous papers and serves as editor-in-chief for the Journal of American Water Resources Association. He has worked as a research associate professor at the University of Illinois, mentoring students while collaborating internationally through Fulbright and other programs.
