The UAB, in partnership with Helipistas, Mitiga Solutions, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, has created a new wildfire propagation simulator to enhance wildfire prediction and management in Spain. This tool, developed by the HPCA4SE research group as part of the SALUS project, utilizes a point cloud model for more accurate fire perimeter calculations and guarantees reliable, high-resolution simulations. The simulator integrates data from citizen alerts, satellites, and helicopters equipped with advanced sensors, allowing for real-time predictions of fire spread.
Once activated, the system conducts multiple simulations and presents the potential fire spread through visual maps, aiding emergency managers in decision-making. Additionally, it assesses potential infrastructure damage, supporting public administrations in planning preventive measures to mitigate the impact of wildfires.
