The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is allocating over $17 million in grants for 89 projects aimed at restoring streams, improving wildlife habitats, and reclaiming abandoned mine lands through the Growing Greener program. DEP Secretary Jessica Shirley emphasized that these investments will lead to cleaner water and reduced pollution.

The funding will support projects selected for the 2025 grant round, including measures to address water issues from abandoned mine drainage. Notably, a $10 million settlement from Energy Transfer Marketing will contribute to watershed improvement projects along pipeline routes.

Grants are available to various organizations, including local governments and conservation districts, with project implementation required within three years. Funding is distributed through established grant programs to ensure oversight and community impact.

The article lists various projects across multiple Pennsylvania counties, detailing the amounts awarded for specific environmental initiatives. For further information, the DEP’s website provides resources about the Growing Greener Plus grant program.
