The Department of Commerce and NOAA have announced $7.2 million in funding for 13 projects aimed at enhancing climate projections to assist communities and industries in preparing for future climate-related impacts. This initiative, part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and the Inflation Reduction Act, focuses on improving predictions of tropical cyclones, heat extremes, and precipitation. The NOAA Climate Program Office will manage the “Climate Futures” initiative, utilizing the SPEAR climate model to simulate high-impact climate events. Projects include collaborations among various universities and NOAA, aiming to inform building codes related to extreme weather events and enhance understanding of extratropical cyclones. This funding aims to promote proactive measures and resilience against climate hazards.
