On September 13, the Millard Piercy Watershed Stewards received the 2025 Keeping It Living Award from Project Watershed for their efforts in protecting the K’ómoks Estuary and its watersheds. Helmut Novak, representing the group, expressed gratitude for the recognition during the sold-out Keeping It Living Dinner at 40 Knots Winery.
Since 2010, the award has honored significant contributions to the health of estuaries and watersheds in the Comox Valley. The Millard Piercy Watershed Stewards were recognized for their long-term commitment and recent initiatives, including investigating toxic chemicals impacting salmon and improving fish passage. Their work directly benefits the K’ómoks Estuary, a major tributary.
The annual Keeping It Living Dinner also supports the Kus-kus-sum project, with ongoing fundraising efforts for its completion. Donations can be made through Project Watershed’s website.
