Susquehanna University has introduced a watershed studies minor within its School of Natural and Social Sciences, focusing on the relationship between land, water, and communities for a sustainable future. Dean Kathy Straub emphasized the program’s practical experience in watershed restoration, addressing a crucial employment need in Pennsylvania. The interdisciplinary minor combines courses in earth sciences, ecology, environmental studies, political science, and public policy. Students will engage in hands-on learning at the university’s Center for Environmental Education and Research, located near the Susquehanna River. Led by assistant professor Siobhan Fathel, the program leverages partnerships with local organizations for research and internship opportunities, laying a strong foundation for careers in watershed conservation.
