The Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) is actively working on two ecological restoration projects in Pennypack Park to enhance water systems, reduce erosion, and support wildlife. Project #50254, focused on Benton Brook, aims to replace outdated sewer systems and remove invasive species while introducing native plants to restore the stream’s natural habitat. Project #50225, along Sandy Run, will replace aging sewer pipes, repair manholes, and reconnect the stream to its floodplain, benefiting both wildlife and the community.

These efforts seek to improve water quality, mitigate erosion, and create a healthier environment for wildlife. PWD engages local residents in planning to ensure minimal environmental impact. For more information, residents can visit PWD’s Ecological Restoration projects page. Other restoration initiatives are also underway throughout the city.
