A new proposal in Olympia aims to make a temporary program permanent, allowing rural fire districts to request aircraft support early during wildfires. Sponsored by Rep. Tom Dent (R-Moses Lake) and based on a successful 2023 pilot program, House Bill 2014 focuses on enhancing wildfire response efficiency. Dent highlighted that early aerial support helps extinguish fires quickly, saves money, and keeps rural fire departments financially stable. The initiative has received positive feedback for its effectiveness.
