Millersville University has acquired Creek Lodge and adjacent woodlot, prompting Dr. John Wallace and Dr. Nanette-Marcum-Dietrich to propose the establishment of a Watershed Education Training Institute (WETi) in an outbuilding on the property. Partnering with the Lancaster Conservancy and Stroud Water Research Center, WETi aims to develop educational programs that train K-12 students and the public on collecting watershed data. This experiential learning initiative promotes watershed conservation and enhances students’ scientific training.

Future projects include a reforestation effort in the MU Biological Preserve, aided by the donation of 300 native trees. Wallace emphasizes the goal of creating “Watershed Ambassadors” among students to foster future environmental stewardship. The collaboration seeks funding to equip the facility as an outdoor laboratory and facilitate real-time stream monitoring, enhancing both education and ecological awareness.
