Last week, New York Forest Rangers were heavily engaged in diverse operations, including multiple rescues, a wildfire, and two fatalities. Since July, they have performed 139 rescues, fought 82 wildfires, and rejuvenated over 1,500 acres.

Notable incidents included a hiker’s fall at Kaaterskill Falls, treated by Rangers and escorted back to safety, and the recovery of a 76-year-old man’s body from Lower Saranac Lake after a search effort. Additionally, a campfire sparked a 40-square-foot blaze in East Otto State Forest, quickly contained by Rangers. They also assisted several hikers in distress in the Adirondacks. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) stresses the importance of preparedness for backcountry activities. For emergencies, the public can reach out at 833-NYS-RANGERS or 911.
