Hawaiian Electric is using drones for aerial inspections of electrical infrastructure in wildfire risk areas on Hawai‘i Island, starting this month. This initiative is part of their wildfire safety strategy, aimed at quickly identifying issues to mitigate wildfire risks. Inspections will be conducted by Cyberhawk alongside Hawaiian Electric staff from mid-October through December 2026 in areas like Downtown Hilo and North Kona. Personnel will wear identifying gear and carry ID badges. While inspections will typically occur without entering homes, operators may need to access private property, with prior notification. For inquiries, contact Hawaiian Electric or Cyberhawk directly.
