Idaho is adopting the “Ready, Set, Go” wildfire evacuation program as the new statewide messaging standard to enhance public understanding and interagency coordination during wildfires. This unified system aligns with the responsibilities of county sheriffs for evacuation orders, aiming to reduce confusion during emergencies. Recommendations from Governor Brad Little’s 2024 wildfire response report influenced this decision, following Kootenai County’s earlier adoption.

The framework categorizes risk into three levels: “Ready” (prepare for possible evacuation), “Set” (ready to leave), and “Go” (evacuate immediately). This statewide standard will improve public safety and operational clarity, especially as wildfire activity and residential development near wildlands increase. Efforts will focus on training, public education, and consistent messaging across jurisdictions.
