The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has awarded $128,000 in grants for outdoor environmental education projects aimed at fostering science and stewardship among students in Fiscal Year 2023. Funded initiatives include:

  • “Bees, Seeds, and Healthy Streams” by Adkins Arboretum and ShoreRivers, engaging second graders in exploring native plants and pollinators.
  • Indigenous Perspectives Project by the Accokeek Foundation, focusing on environmental connections and cultural preservation.
  • Urban Runoff Reduction Project by Living Classrooms Foundation, involving 500 Baltimore City students in stormwater management education.

Additionally, a $9,995 grant will fund teacher training for the “Wave of Plastic” curriculum at Charles County middle schools, addressing plastic pollution. These grants are facilitated through the DNR Grants Gateway, supporting local projects that foster healthy ecosystems and enhance outdoor learning experiences.
