The California Department of Water Resources (DWR), in collaboration with various organizations, is engaged in significant restoration projects in the Upper Feather River Watershed to enhance the State Water Project (SWP) and secure water supply for 27 million Californians. Key initiatives include restoring alpine meadows, which function like sponges that store and release water, benefiting water supply, quality, and wildfire mitigation.

The successful Thompson Meadow restoration has increased wet meadow areas and improved wildlife habitats, attracting various species. Upcoming projects will continue this work, including forest resilience efforts aimed at reducing wildfire risk and supporting ecosystem health.

DWR’s programs are guided by rigorous monitoring to ensure long-term benefits and adaptability in response to climate challenges, fostering a sustainable water future for California.
