NASA has contracted American Aerospace Technologies Inc. (AATI) to provide uncrewed aircraft services for wildfire monitoring under its FireSense Project. AATI will operate its AiRanger aircraft, adapted to carry NASA sensors, for data collection over active wildfires. Scheduled flights will occur for up to 96 hours within 14 days between February and April 2026, in locations determined by fire conditions. The AiRanger has a wingspan of 16 feet, over 20 hours of flight endurance, and operates at altitudes up to 12,000 feet, equipped with advanced flight controls and safety systems. AATI will integrate various NASA sensors to gather crucial atmospheric and remote sensing data, contributing to improved wildfire detection and response in NASA’s Earth observation initiatives.
