The committee hearing discussed several initiatives to enhance tree planting and forest restoration, including the Graduation Legacy Act, Family Tree Planting Act, Green Measures Act, and amendments to the Arbor Day Act. The Million Trees Foundation, Inc. (MTFI) supports these measures but suggests improvements for better survival rates and ecological benefits.

Key recommendations include collaboration between schools and local governments for effective tree planting, clear guidelines for the Family Tree Planting Act, and a focus on tree-planting plans in infrastructure projects to mitigate urban issues. MTFI advocates for a National Million Trees Program to restore critical watersheds and forests, emphasizing long-term stewardship over mere planting.

Lawmakers acknowledged MTFI’s suggestions and stressed the importance of species selection and monitoring systems. MTFI’s president highlighted tree growing as vital for national development, aiming to bolster climate resilience and water security. The foundation also announced its “Run for a Million Trees” event on April 11 to rally support for environmental protection.
