Extreme weather events pose significant risks to life and economies, and while the physical causes are known, the impact of climate change on these events remains less understood. The NOAA will present findings from the report “Explaining Extreme Events from a Climate Perspective in 2015” at a press conference on December 15, 2016. This report, part of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, will analyze various extreme weather events from 2015, including severe heat waves, heavy precipitation in India, extreme cold outbreaks in North America, and record global temperatures. The conference will include discussions on the contributions of natural and human factors to these events and future attribution research. Media representatives can attend in-person or via live streaming.
