NOAA has awarded nearly $1.4 million in Fiscal Year 2024 for 16 new projects under the Chesapeake Bay-Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) program, benefiting students and teachers across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. These projects aim to enhance environmental education through Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs), which combine outdoor and classroom learning to engage students in local environmental issues and promote informed action. Additionally, nearly $1.3 million will fund 15 continuing projects reaching over 15,000 students and 300 teachers across the region. Initiatives include Maryland’s sixth-grade programs, Virginia’s climate change education, and Pennsylvania’s environmental literacy plans. The B-WET program, established in 2002, focuses on systemic educational transformations, ensuring all students have access to meaningful watershed experiences that foster understanding and stewardship of their environment.
