The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will use the Will Rogers State Beach parking lot for staging and processing household hazardous waste from the Palisades Fire. This decision follows debates over suitable locations, with some resistance from Malibu over earlier proposals. The EPA will secure and package hazardous materials at this temporary site before transporting them to permanent disposal facilities. While officials claim the site is ideal for its proximity and management practices, criticism emerged, particularly from Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park, who cited a lack of transparency. In contrast, Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart supports the decision, emphasizing the importance of safe and efficient recovery efforts. The EPA has faced similar backlash regarding another processing site in Irwindale.
