The Utah Department of Natural Resources celebrates 20 years of its Watershed Restoration Initiative, restoring nearly 3 million acres of wildland across over 35 million acres of public land. In fiscal year 2025, they restored 144,433 acres while focusing on watershed health, water quality, and sustainable resource use. Key accomplishments include improving habitats for the declining sage grouse by reducing encroaching pinyon and juniper trees. The program also enhances vegetation, stream health, and erosion reduction. With ongoing support from state funding, the initiative aims to tackle the extensive restoration needs across Utah.
