In late July, Dave Grazynski visited a fishing spot near the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield, where he practices catch-and-release fly fishing. He is part of the Nutmeg Chapter of Trout Unlimited, which aims to restore parts of the Mill River affected by road runoff and erosion. The river, crucial for trout survival, has sections that are unnaturally straight due to infrastructure impacts, leading to warmer waters detrimental to aquatic life.

Trout Unlimited plans to enhance the river by adding rocks, riffles, and deepening areas to create better habitats for trout. The restoration project, estimated to cost $50,000 to $55,000, has already raised $31,000, with hopes to begin before summer 2024. Grazynski emphasizes the importance of this initiative for future generations, wanting to maintain the river as a resource for his children.
