Saskatchewan and much of the Prairie region are experiencing low wildfire danger through June, but officials warn of potential worsening conditions as summer progresses. The 2026 wildfire season has started more slowly compared to recent years, with 1,747 wildfires recorded as of June 10, including 95 active fires. Current forecasts indicate low fire risks across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and southern Manitoba, aided by recent rainfall.

However, anticipated warmer temperatures this summer could heighten wildfire risks nationwide, particularly in July and August. The federal government is increasing firefighting resources, committing $316.7 million to enhance aerial firefighting capacity, including leasing new aircraft.

Residents are advised to stay vigilant and prepared for potential wildfires, with access to updates and emergency preparedness information through various federal resources.
