Southern California Edison (SCE) has initiated a Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program to potentially compensate tens of thousands of victims from the Eaton Fire. During a recent earnings call, SCE reported receiving 2,405 claims and extending 593 offers totaling over $183 million, with liabilities related to the fire nearing $1 billion. The cause of the fire remains unclear but is believed to be linked to an idle transmission line owned by SCE.

Currently, around 18,000 properties are eligible for compensation, with liability estimates from analysts suggesting SCE could face up to $13.5 billion in claims. The company has also pledged $2 million to help survivors. Although wildfire-related liabilities may hinder shareholder growth in 2026, earnings are expected to recover in subsequent years.
