A meeting hosted by the National Weather Service in Hutchinson County focused on weather forecasts and wildfire mitigation in the Texas Panhandle. Despite recent snow, the winter fire season is underway, leading into the high-risk spring months. Local agencies gathered for the NWS Fire Partner meeting, emphasizing the importance of preparedness for natural threats. Fire officials highlighted the need for public cooperation in maintaining properties to reduce wildfire risks, such as cleaning yards and gutters. Borger City Manager Garrett Spradling and Perryton Fire Chief Paul Dutcher stressed staying informed on potential dangers. The Dome Civic and Convention Center will host storm spotting training on February 25.
