California Trout (CalTrout) has received a grant from the California Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) for the restoration of the East Fork Scott River at The Wildlands Conservancy’s Beaver Valley Headwaters Preserve, vital for coho salmon in the Klamath River Basin. This grant is part of nearly $60 million allocated for 27 projects in 18 counties aimed at protecting biodiversity and restoring wildlife habitats.
The East Fork Scott River restoration will enhance salmon habitats by reconnecting floodplains and improving water quality, aligning with California’s salmon strategy and the 30×30 initiative to conserve 30% of lands by 2030. Community engagement is integral, with local students and Tribal youth participating in field-based learning and restoration efforts.
CalTrout partners with The Wildlands Conservancy and local Tribes, aiming to provide public access to the preserve and educational opportunities for over 250 students annually. The project seeks to restore ecological function and support salmon life cycles, making it a significant step towards ecological resilience in the region.
