The Utah Watershed Restoration Initiative focuses on enhancing the state’s watersheds and habitats, having improved 144,433 acres between July 2024 and June 2025. Established in 2006, the initiative aims to improve watershed health, biodiversity, and water quality while supporting sustainable resource use. Key partner Utah Division of Wildlife Resources leads regional projects.

In the past fiscal year, significant achievements included restoring areas affected by wildfires, seeding nearly 743,787 pounds of vegetation, and completing 120 restoration projects. Over $31 million was invested by 63 partners, including federal agencies and conservation groups.

Efforts included removing encroaching trees, conducting prescribed burns, and building artificial beaver dams to restore streams. These initiatives have collectively improved nearly 3 million acres through over 2,900 projects since inception. For detailed project locations, visit the WRI website.
