Following recent wildfires, the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office is urging affected homeowners to update their mailing addresses to receive property tax refunds and important documents. Since January, the office has been proactively managing disaster relief, including temporary property value reductions and tax refunds, under California’s Misfortune & Calamity law. However, many refunds are being returned due to outdated addresses caused by property destruction. Assessor Jeff Prang emphasized the need for accurate contact information to expedite relief. Homeowners can update their addresses through the Assessor’s website without altering ownership. Ongoing support includes tax deferrals and waivers for late payments, as part of a coordinated recovery effort. More information on disaster relief programs is available online.
